Frequently Asked Questions
It just looks like a piece of paper; how do I know it works?
Looks can be deceiving. Our patented desiccant solution is spread out on a molecular level to the paper to provide maximum reduction of humidity. The paper acts as a vacuum bag to efficiently soak up humidity very quickly. It is currently in different sections of consumer goods with many satisfied manufacturers making the switch. Simple Dry is becoming the industry standard for desiccants on the market because it is an effective, environmentally friendly, and economical solution for global desiccant problems. See our Why Simple Dry page for more info.
Is Simple Dry safe?
YES! Simple Dry is FDA approved made with food grade materials. The active ingredients are used in other foods that many Americans eat. It complies with FDA regulations for direct food contact packaging; 21CFR 176.170 (conditions of US B,C,D,E,F,G,H), 21CFR 176.180, 21CFR 176.260 pulp from reclaimed fiber, 21CFR 109.30a (9) pertaining to PCB content of paper food packaging materials.
Does Simple Dry have any certifications?
Yes, we are certified with the Forest Stewardship Council and our unique code is SA-COC-002372-165. Please visit www.fsc.org learn more about our efforts of sustainability to preserve our forests.
Why should I use Simple Dry instead of other desiccants on the market?
We firmly believe that we are to be good stewards of the earth and Simple Dry is the only green desiccant on the market, made from 100% recycled paper and will return to the recycle stream. Just as importantly, it works quickly to reduce humidity that causes mold, mildew and rust with our patented formula that disperses the desiccant on a molecular level. It is also solving many business challenges having no issues with spillage, lays flat, stores compactly and is one of the most affordable options on the market. Why would you not use a sustainable product, that is good for the environment, an opportunity to reflect green values to all involved, and will save you money?
What is a desiccant?
A desiccant is a humidity magnet that serves to maintain a state of dryness. In layman’s terms, they suck water out of the air, so the moisture does not cause damage or rust to the product being sold.
Simple Dry and archaic desiccants such as silica gel, montmorillonite clay, and molecular sieve are used to remove humidity from the air and adsorb moisture. The goal is to create dry environments.
Moisture is a real issue and damp environments can result in damage to many consumer items: such as, clothing, shoes, hardware, electronics, furniture, cosmetics, medications, vitamins, or anything that could be damaged by water. Containers can also hit the dew point during transport, ruining cargo with “container rain.”
Mold, bacteria, and fungus can all thrive with moisture present in a variety of products along with many electronics and metal parts being permanently damaged by rust. It is vital to find a desiccant that works quickly to remove humidity in the air such as Simple Dry, so precious product is not ruined.
Should I be concerned about silica gel or other packet I see in shipping boxes?
YES! While silica gel is inert and your body can process it, there are reports every year of pets, children and adults choking on these packets and silica gel dust is known to be toxic. Silica packets are one of the highest volume calls to poison control each year. They literally say, “Do not eat” and ‘Throw away” leaving the billions of desiccant packets in landfills annually. Why keep this as a liability for your business when there is a better solution. If you are not a business, why not demand your favorite companies to make the switch today and help us eliminate a billion packets globally.
What does curbside recyclable mean? Are other desiccants curbside recyclable?
Curbside recyclable is exactly what it sounds like. Just like cardboard, paper, milk jugs, cans, or similar items, Simple Dry can go directly into your “curbside” recycle bin at home. There are other desiccants that claim to be recyclable or made from recyclable material but how they are manufactured makes it very difficult for them to be recycled.
How much Simple Dry should I use?
Here are some general guidelines. One 3-inch square Simple Dry sheet protects the volume of an average men’s shoe box or a smaller package. One 8-inch square protects the volume of a typical conventional oven. One Simple Dry Cargo Kit will protect a 40-foot container. For general size requirements, see Simple Dry Sheets page, but there are many considerations to determine the amount of desiccant to be used. Size of packaging, barrier material and contents to the package are the key factors to consider.
Please call us at (855) 220-2242 or email us for specific sizing consultation.
Does the size of the container matter?
No. Just follow our recommendations for the size of a sealed container, Simple Dry can work in any size.
Will Simple Dry work in a very humid environment or climate?
Yes, it will. If your container is airtight and recommendations for use are followed, Simple Dry works in even the most extreme weather conditions.
How much water can Simple Dry absorb from the air?
In conditions of high humidity, Simple Dry can more than double its weight as it absorbs water from the air. Simple Dry absorbs much more efficiently than the leading desiccant material currently on the market. Go to the “Why Simple Dry” page for a full overview.
Do you have an instruction page on how to use Simple Dry or safety data sheet?
Yes, you can see the Simple Dry Cargo instructions here, Simple Dry Sheets instructions here, and safety data sheet here.
